BRIGHTON YOUTH RUGBY
Damon played rugby for Fort Collins Youth Rugby and won 3 state championships, then played at the University of Montana, and then for the Fort Collins Flamingos. He received his USA Rugby Level 200 coaching certification in 2016 and has coached youth rugby the past 3 years and co-founded BYRA with Jeff McEntee in 2019. Damon works as a Senior Project Manager for Hyder Construction in Denver, and also is a Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 193.
Jeff played 4 years of college rugby for the Colorado School of Mines. 2 of those years the CSM Rugby team placed 2nd in their ERRFU conference and qualified for Nationals. Jeff is also a Level 200 Certified Rugby Coach and 2019 will be his 5th year coaching youth Rugby. Jeff works as a Commissioning Engineer for Ambient Energy in Denver.
Jeanette is the current Marketing/Sponsorship board member. She has been a “Rugby Mom” since her oldest son Alex started playing in 5th grade!! She loves watching her kids play youth and high school, and can’t wait to see her kids play at the college level! This is Amy’s fourth year coaching youth rugby. After two years of coaching U8 flag, she obtained her Level 200 Coaching Cert with USARFU in 2018 and coached a winning season of tackle for U10’s. Amy is a nurse at Lutheran Medical Center, and recently completed grad school for her Nurse Practitioner. She is the Director of Base Operations for Edwards Racing. In her spare time, she enjoys baking & sewing.
Joel is currently a Physical Education teacher at Brighton High School. He has been coaching rugby for the past 6 years for the 7’s and capturing 5 championships in that time. Joel has also coached other sports for the last 32 years. Some of the sports he has coached is football, basketball, wrestling, golf, baseball and several others.
Mike is a Level 200 certified youth, high school rugby and former youth football coach. He began his coaching career assisting with his son’s youth football team in 2010. He coached his first rugby team in 2012 as an off-season activity to keep the youth football kids in shape. Coaching with Coach Flancher, the Brighton Bruins U11 team won the U12 championship in their inaugural season. Predominantly a summer 7s coach, in 2018 he coached his first season of 15s. The Brighton High School 7s program currently runs two teams in the Rugby Colorado Summer 7s program, with several Brighton players playing throughout the year on other teams traveling to national tournaments. His son James is a current BYRA and North American High School 7s Series tournament player.
Tom Weaver has been coaching rugby for 3 years. He is level 200 Certified. Tom has also coached youth football for the past 6 years. Tom works as a commercial superintendent for A.D. Miller Construction Services.
I am a mom of two boys. Tyler, our oldest, is going on his third year of playing rugby and LOVES the sport. I am excited to be a part of BYRA as the treasurer and look forward to a great year!
I am the marketing/sponsorship co-chair. My son joined youth Rugby in 2018. Our family immediately fell in love with the sport and the community that surrounds it. I am excited to be a part of BYRA and love watching this amazing sport grow. I work as a Kindergarten thru 8th grade Special Education para and attend school at CSU.
Jason found an interest to rugby when it was introduced to his family a couple of years ago. Jason has experience coaching other sports but this will be his first year as an assistant coach for youth rugby, after receiving Level 200 accreditation through USA Rugby. Jason works as a biomedical technician at UC Denver.
Mike played 4 years of Rugby at the University of Northern Colorado, where his team qualified for Nationals 2 years in a row. He started his Rugby Coaching career with the Northside Youth Rugby Club and was the first Youth Rugby Coach in the Adams 12 School District. While coaching the Northside Youth Dragons, his team won 3 State Championships. He then coached the High School Team for 2 years and then started coaching a youth team in the Brighton Area in 2018.
